SUMMARY:The Meridian Connection
DESCRIPTION:What if you could skip the non-essentials\, simplify the philosophy\, and focus on material you will be able to use in your office on Monday morning?  If that sounds appealing\, join us! This two-day seminar will take the mystery out of meridians. \nWe focus on applying acupuncture concepts to massage therapy assessment and treatment. You will become familiar with some acupuncture points but the real emphasis is on the meridian itself. You will learn to trace fourteen meridians from memory and discuss the associated muscles\, organs\, emotions\, and pathologies. \nExpect to become comfortable locating acupressure points as well as using combinations of points to treat meridians\, organs and systems. We will use intention as well as physical stimulation in this approach. Our own personal meridian systems will be balanced several times throughout the weekend and we will finish by practicing assessment and treatment in triads. If you keep hearing about meridians and wish you understood them better\, this is a rare opportunity to increase your confidence and therapeutic effectiveness by spending two days immersed in them. \nThis material will be especially appreciated by practitioners of chi gung\, tai chi\, or Touch For Health Kinesiology. The practical concepts and hands-on techniques are useful for anyone who is interested in meridians and health. \nCORE BENEFITS\nDevelop basic skill at locating\, evaluating and treating 14 meridian channels from traditional Chinese medicine.\nDevelop basic skill at locating\, evaluating and treating major acupuncture points. \nWHY TAKE THIS TWO-DAY CLASS?\nBy participating in this class\, you will: \n\nLearn to locate and trace fourteen acupuncture meridians\nLearn a technique called “meridian walking” for acute pain\nStudy muscles\, organs\, emotions and pathologies relating to each meridian\nLearn how to use meridians in clinical assessment\nLearn how to treat meridian imbalance with massage techniques\nLearn how acupuncture concepts apply to any clinical bodywork practice\nPractice meridian exercises and self-treatment\nPractice locating\, evaluating\, and treating acupuncture points\nLearn to use entry and exit points for balancing meridians\nLearn how to use front mu (alarm) points and back shu points to treat organs\nLearn the most powerful treatment points for common conditions\nLearn how to easily integrate acupuncture points into massage practice\n\nFEE\n$350 early registration (includes manual) – before Dec. 15\, 2024 \nCONTINUING EDUCATION: 16 CONTACT HOURS\n“The Meridian Connection” is approved for the following: \n\nNCBTMB certified therapists and LMT’s in states that accept NCBTMB approval.\nFlorida Massage Therapists (CE Broker Tracking #: 20-591507)\n\nREGISTRATION\nRegister through the Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy

SUMMARY:Training Your Touch 2: Following the Fascia
DESCRIPTION:Are you ready for the next step in refining your skills? After a quick review/preview of Training Your Touch: Advanced Palpation Skills (Which is NOT a prerequisite for this class)\, we will practice palpating and assessing physiological movement in the body. Then we begin evaluation of the fascial body at various listening points to identify stress or dysfunction. Topics will include osteopathic concepts that relate to our therapy methods\, and how to apply those concepts as treatment techniques. I believe that understanding the relationship between concept and technique is one key to optimal results. \nThe second day begins with grounding and centering to refine our perception. Then we mindfully assess tension patterns and fascial pulls in the lower extremities\, upper extremities\, and torso. By applying what we have learned to different layers of tissue\, we will literally be “following the fascia”. Finally\, we pull everything together in order to practice assessment and treatment in groups of three. This class will expand your skill in any method of bodywork. \nPrerequisites: NONE. This class is open to everyone. (Two or more years of hands-on experience is recommended) \nCORE BENEFITS\nLearn advanced manual assessment strategies and fascial evaluation techniques \nWHY TAKE THIS TWO-DAY CLASS?\nAfter participating in this class\, you will be able to: \n\nDiscuss the importance of grounding before assessment\nDescribe “mindful palpation”\nDemonstrate one or more techniques for relaxing the nervous system\nDiscuss how to enhance palpation skills for assessment and treatment\nDemonstrate using touch to evaluate sympathetic activation\nDiscuss the Osteopathic concept of “The Body Hugs the Lesion”\nDemonstrate identification of postural strain patterns through touch\nDiscuss the importance of fascia in manual assessment\nDiscuss the potential role of mirror neurons in assessment\nPerform three or more assessment techniques at the feet and ankles\nDemonstrate how assessment can merge into treatment\nDiscuss the concept of “inhibition”\nDescribe how to use rhythms and micro-movements in assessment and treatment\nDemonstrate how to apply inhibition to orthopedic testing\nDemonstrate fascial assessment of the upper extremities\, lower extremities\, and back\nBe able to “follow the fascia’ in both assessment and treatment\n\nFEE\n$300 (including study guide) \nCONTINUING EDUCATION: 16 CONTACT HOURS\n“Training Your Touch 2: Following the Fascia” is approved for the following: \n\nNCBTMB certified therapists (and LMT’s in states that accept NCBTMB approval)\nMassage therapists in Florida and Georgia (CE Broker Tracking #: 20-747062)\n\n\n\nRegistration: \nRegister through the PITTSBURCH SCHOOL OF MASSAGE THERAPY
