Meridian Therapy
Meridians are traditionally described as channels for energy called Chi (Chinese) or Ki (Japanese). This energy is a naturally occurring phenomenon in all biological organisms. It orchestrates our growth and development, guides our physiological processes and plays a pivotal role in health.
These meridian channels are a largely untapped resource in Western healthcare. I realized through my own continuing education that meridians are touched upon in nearly every advanced bodywork training yet very few therapists know much about them. They have not had enough exposure to be able to apply the concepts in practice. That is why I created these classes.
How it Works
Much like the wiring in your home, meridians can become overcharged (excess) when too much energy is flowing or undercharged (deficient) when the flow is interrupted. Each of these conditions can bring about specific physical ailments according to the meridian involved. Modern practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine use various means to tonify (energize) a meridian that is deficient or sedate a meridian that is in excess. A basic, underlying principle of nearly every traditional form of medicine throughout the world is that when balanced energy circulation is restored, the physical body will return to a normal, healthy state.
Acupuncturists may use needles, heat, infrared light, lasers, magnetic fields, electrical current, or nutrition to balance meridian energy flows. Many systems of massage and bodywork, however, use only soft tissue manipulation (massage), stretching and point compression to achieve the same objective. We will add intention to the mix.
Meridians are a foundation of applied kinesiology and a component of craniosacral therapy. They are utilized by practitioners of structural integration and by advanced myofascial trigger point therapists. All of these practitioners enjoy great success using only manual manipulation and intention.
The seminars listed below present the most practical concepts from meridian therapy in a way that allows you to apply them immediately in your clinical massage therapy practice.
